ANNE VIEUX

ANNE VIEUX is a contemporary artist who works with painting and sculpture to investigate the optical effects of the digital screen and the role of light in abstraction. Her studio is located in Long Island City, where she creates digital images of textured surfaces and transforms them into physical objects. Her work challenges the perception of depth, color and movement in the digital age.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL WORKSPACE IN THREE WORDS…
Stocked, lights, tools.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF IN THE SPACE?
I like that I currently have a space where I can be alone and uninterrupted. It’s a real privilege and luxury.

WHAT CAN YOU SEE OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOWS?
An ongoing war between a flock of pigeons and hawks, but mostly construction and industrial buildings with glimpses of the sky.

WHAT THEMES DO YOU PURSUE IN YOUR WORK?
Light as a material to explore abstract painting; the coding and repetition of physical information; giving the virtual traces a form.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST IMPORTANT ARTIST’S TOOL?
First of all, time. But, physically, my computer and hands.

WHAT MINDSET/MOOD DO YOU MAKE YOUR BEST ART/WORK?
Each stage of my work requires a difference energy and mental state. I work on multiple pieces to move between physical applications, digital editing and conceptualising.

Where They’ is a visual documentation of the creative environments of artist & people, that meet during my travels, of homes and studios.
